Microplastics in the Salish Sea: Inspiring Action through Data Collection

This interactive outdoor workshop is an opportunity to learn how two secondary science teachers have been inspired to turn a class project into a Vancouver Island citizen science movement. Participants will have the chance to develop microplastics sampling techniques while learning how field studies can inspire environmental action and hope.

    Nicole Lorusso and Tomo Nishizawa are secondary science teachers in Duncan, BC. They both have MAs in environmental/place-based education and are interested in understanding how teacher’s relationships to place influence their practices. They have previous experience teaching internationally and are passionate about developing meaningful experiential learning opportunities for students.
