The traditional philosophy of the Indigenous Peoples is centered on the holistic view that everything is interconnected, that humanity is part of the ecosystem. With this concept we have developed an annual outdoor 2-day camp that focuses on the First Peoples Principles of Learning to guide students to this understanding.

I am the principal of McBride Centennial Elementary School and the interim principal of McBride Secondary School. My place-based learning journey began at summer camps and an outdoor education centre. Several years ago, at McBride Centennial, we created a 2-day Elders' outdoor education camp, which embeds indigenous ways of knowing and being.
